Lifestyz GH's Editorial Team is growing! We have two new amazing ladies who have joined our team to make sure we give you our readership the best and most interesting information and insights into issues concerning Ghana. Welcome to Lifestylz GH Abena Opokua Bampo Opoku and Frances Marie Oduro!!!
Abena Opokua Bampo OpokuFrom her humble beginnings, Abena knew that she would eventually pursue a career that had something to do with food. Growing up with a farmer-father, the enormous amounts of time she spent on her father’s farm and around other farmers gave her in depth insight into the problems that face the agriculture sector of Ghana. Despite this sector being the backbone of Ghana’s economy, it is by far the most neglected and underrated sector of Ghana. Her greatest aspiration is to open up food processing and food safety companies to help solve many of Ghana’s food problems. It is therefore no surprise that she hopes to obtain both masters and PhD degrees in food science (not the same as nutrition or culinary sciences) immediately after her undergraduate degree. She is currently a rising senior pursuing Biochemistry as a major at Mount Holyoke College.
Abena’s educational career has taken her from Tetteh Memorial Kindergarten, to First Baptist Nursery and to St. Paul’s Methodist Preparatory School; all in Tema. For her junior high school education she transferred to SOS Hermann Gmeiner Junior Secondary School and subsequently obtained an International Baccalaureate degree from SOS Hermann Gmeiner International College in 2006. It was her emotionally tumultuous experiences at SOS College that unleashed Abena’s passion for writing especially for writing poetry. She is currently in the process of preparing a collection of poems for publication but snippets of her poetry can be found on her blog.
Frances Marie Oduro
Frances Marie Oduro, aka Awura Ama recently graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana, with a degree in Actuarial Science and has recently learned to give up any hope of getting employed in the public sector anytime soon. Whether that is a blessing or a curse depends on her future plans of someday owning and operating the biggest wedding planning business in Ghana (Insha Allahu!). Awura Ama is an avid reader of anything interesting. Her favourite authors include Judith McNaught, James Patterson, Nora Roberts and Sidney Sheldon, to name but a few. She also loves poems and apart from Abena Anoff's My Girl, she names Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman as her all time favourite poem thus far. She loves listening to danceable music as well as jazz and loves to write, especially poetry.
